The Kyber Order

Lightsaber Forms and their Focuses

Form 1 - Shii-Cho

Focuses on foundational lessons, including how to hold the saber, how to keep it in your line of sight, moving with confidence during Flowbat, and feeling comfortable wielding the saber with intent and purpose.

Form 2 - Makashi

Emphasizes fencing movements, with shuffled footwork, quick jabs, and precise parries. It focuses on footwork and controlling the flow of combat via controlling the center line.  Smaller, more efficient strikes.

Form 3 - Soresu

Almost purely defensive in nature, creating a “wall” against the opponent. Primarily focused on blocking rather than parrying, with sudden dodges to wear down the opponent. Attacks are infrequent.

Form 4 - Ataru

Characterized by large, aggressive attacks and erratic foot movement. This form is bold and unsubtle, with powerful counterattacks.

Form 5 - Shien/Djem So

Uses a block-and-counter approach, baiting opponents into easily countered situations. Features ripostes and explosive movements. Form 5 is divided into two styles: Djem-So, focusing on attack, and Shien, emphasizing defense.

Form 6 - Niman

Personalized application of the previous 5 Forms. Emphasizes blending known techniques for fluid saber-work and footwork. Often incorporates dual-saber techniques, though not required. Allows for possible “Force” attacks.
Special Note: You must have reached Paragon Rank in all other forms (1-5) to begin practicing Niman.

Form 7 - Juyo/Vaapad

Juyo: Erratic and seemingly unconnected attacks, focusing on relentless pressure to break down the enemy’s defenses. Minimal dodging and blocking, with an emphasis on countering and parrying.

Vaapad: Matches the opponent’s speed and power, then escalates beyond their control. Characterized by unpredictable attacks that provoke opponents into taking risky actions. Engages larger forces with smaller ones to incite anger and mistakes.
Special Note: You must have reached Paragon Rank in all other forms (1-5), and Exemplar in 6, to begin practicing Juyo/Vaapad. Your Opponent must agree to allow use of this Form.
